It’s been 20 years since Troy Bayliss won his first World Superbike Championship title back in 2001 on a Ducati 996R, and what better way to pay tribute to one of your greatest racers, than to unveil a special-edition motorcycle. A numbered-production model, the Ducati Panigale V2 Bayliss 1st Championship 20th Anniversary Edition has been launched at a sticker price of Rs 21.30 lakh, receiving visual and mechanical upgrades over the standard Panigale V2. This motorcycle was unveiled internationally in September last year.

The Ducati Panigale V2 Bayliss 1st Championship 20th Anniversary adorns a new livery with graphics inspired by the 996R on which Troy Bayliss won the 2001 WSBK championship title. The colours include Ducati’s signature red combined with white and green to signify the Bolognese roots of the bikemaker. Troy Bayliss’ racing number 21 can be seen on the front and sides of the motorcycle, while his signature has been replicated on the fuel tank, and on the seat as well, which also receives red stitching, as well as the colours for the Italian flag.

Except for the suspension setup, the rest of the motorcycle remains identical to the standard Panigale V2

In terms of the mechanicals, the Ducati Panigale V2 Bayliss remains more or less the same as the standard Panigale V2, save for a new Ohlins fully adjustable suspension setup on both ends — you get 43mm Ohlins NiX forks up front and a Ohlins TTX36 monoshock with an aluminium swingarm at the rear. The motorcycle loses 3kg of weight, translating into a kerb weight of 197kg. Its seat height too has been lessened by 5mm, and now stands at 835mm. It retains the same 955cc liquid-cooled L-twin Desmodromic powertrain mated to a six-speed gearbox. Output figures stand at 152bhp at 10,750rpm and 104Nm of torque at 9000rpm. The Ducati Panigale V2 Bayliss also retains the same Brembo braking setup — 320mm semi-floating twin discs with radially-mounted Monobloc M4.32 four-piston calipers at the front, and a 245mm disc with a dual-piston caliper at the rear.

Ducati Panigale V2 Bayliss 1st Championship 20th Anniversary edition Equipment

The Ducati Panigale V2 Bayliss continues to feature the same set of equipment as the standard Panigale V2, which means it receives three riding modes, power modes, traction control, wheelie control, engine brake control, automatic tyre calibration, a quickshifter, and a 4.3-inch TFT instrument cluster with Ducati Multimedia system among others.
