Few months ago, Triumph Motorcycles unveiled the new Street Triple RS, followed by the updated Street Triple S as well. But they have gone ahead and launched the R in India already at a starting price of Rs 8.84 lakh making it cheaper than the Street Triple RS by a whopping 2.5 lakh rupees. Let’s find out more about the R variant then.

What’s new in the Street Triple R?

To start off with, the new Street Triple R gets the aggressive headlight and bodywork seen on the other 2020 Street Triple variants. The new mirrors now offer a wider range of adjustments. There’s also new paintjob and graphics, for a fresh look.

The Moto2-derived inline three-cylinder 765cc engine continues to produce 114bhp at 12,000rpm and 77.28Nm at 9,400rpm, however, Triumph claims to have shaved seven per cent of the rotational inertia in the triple, resulting in a snappier throttle. The airbox and exhaust system have been revised too, giving the 2020 Street Triple R a “crispier, purer sound, with a more distinctive tone.” Complementing the six-speed transmission and the slip and assist clutch is the bidirectional quickshifter, offered as standard.

The 2020 Street Triple R gets 41mm Showa separate function big piston forks and a Showa piggyback reservoir monoshock RSU. Both are fully adjustable units. Braking duties are handled by Brembo M4.32 four-piston radial monobloc front calipers and a Brembo single pot caliper at the rear.

The Street Triple R is now the entry-level stretfighter from Triumph in India and it goes up against the likes of KTM 790 Duke, Kawasaki Z900, Ducati and Monster 821.
