I went shopping for a new ‘orange’ lid contemplating the 390 Adventure’s launch. The MT Thunder 3 SV with its super-bright fluorescent-orange theme, incorporating funky graphics goes well with the KTM design lingo. However, KTM has kept us waiting, delaying the launch and I was left with no option but to use the Thunder 3, regardless. Initially, I had planned to limit the usage to racetracks as the helmet comes with a D-ring but thanks to its brilliant insulation, the helmet can even be used for touring.
What also helps is the built-in sun visor although getting a dark visor is no problem at all. Open Road stocks dark visor for MTs costing barely Rs 1,100. The same dark visor also fits other MT helmets, including Mugello. The quick-release mechanism for the visor isn’t as efficient as other brands and takes a little getting used to. However, for Rs 6,250, the Thunder 3 SV comes across as a brilliant value-for-money helmet, which also comes with dual certification – ECE R-22.05 (EU) & DOT (US). KTM may have disappointed us fans, but the MT Thunder 3 SV has been a steal for sure.
