Hero Cycles would be exporting its range of ‘Lectro’ e-bikes to the UK. The company will be utilising the distribution network of Avocet Sports (acquired by Hero Cycles in 2015), to market them in not only UK but the whole of Europe.

Hero Cycles plans to export 45,000 bicycles over the course of the next few months. The e-bicycles offer a hassle-free ownership experience as they can be charged using a regular wall socket. Cycling is promoted in the UK to not only curb pollution, but congestion in metro cities including the likes of London and Glasgow, where they have dedicated cycle lanes throughout the city.

About the initiative, Pankaj M Munjal, chairman, Hero Cycles, said, “Lectro is an innovative electric-bicycle that is expected to strike a chord with a wide variety of consumers in the UK/EU – from office goers to youth to the elderly. The fact that it requires no charging stations has been a major factor in propelling its popularity since there is no ‘range anxiety’ associated with it. While the first lot of Lectro is expected to hit the market shelves in the coming months, we are working to accomplish exports of over 45,000 units over the next few months,”

There are also talks of Hero Cycles collaborating with Japanese manufacturers to improve the electrical drive units and technology on their cycles.
