Yamaha has launched two new scooters in the 125cc segment — the RayZR 125 Fi Hybrid and Street Rally 125 Fi Hybrid priced at Rs 76,830 and Rs 83,830 respectively. Both scooters will make use of the same cycle parts and mechanical packages, with styling being the key difference between them.

Design

The design of the scooters remains the same as the outgoing models but the Street Rally 125 Fi Hybrid has a few aesthetic differences like metal plates, coloured wheel stripes, brush guard and block pattern tyres. In addition to this, the new model year update gives these two scooters a couple of fresh paint schemes. The new colour options for the RayZR are Cocktail Yellow and Racing Blue and the Street Rally 125 gets Sparkle Green and Matt Copper. There’s also a RayZR Monster Energy Yamaha GP Edition that costs a little more.

Engine

Both scooters will come equipped with a BS6-compliant 125cc air-cooled fuel-injected engine that churns out 8.08bhp at 6500rpm and 10.3Nm at 5000rpm and uses a CVT to deliver power to the ground. And now, Yamaha has given them the hybrid power assist with a Smart Motor Generator (SMG). The SMG unit incorporates an electric motor that assists the engine in the event of acceleration from dead stops, hill climbs, and it can also be used as a motor to start the cold engine quietly.

Chassis

In terms of chassis setup, nothing much has changed from the outgoing models. Both scooters will come with telescopic suspension up front and a single-sided coil spring at the rear. Braking duties are handled by a 190mm disc in the front and drum brakes at the rear. Customers can also opt for drum brakes at both ends.

Features

On the feature front, these two scooters have Bluetooth enabled Yamaha Motorcycle Connect-X app hosting features for the rider’s convenience like answer back, geo-tracking, riding history and parking record. Along with these features, both scooters will have LED headlights and a fully digital instrument cluster and a Unified Brake System, which is Yamaha’s version of the combi-brake system.

During the launch, Motofumi Shitara, Chairman, Yamaha Motor India group of companies said, “The launch of the Hybrid version of the new RayZR 125 FI and Street Rally 125 FI has allowed Yamaha to further expand its portfolio of Hybrid scooter offerings in India. After receiving an immense response for the Fascino 125 Fi Hybrid, we are confident about further strengthening our position in the market, with these new offerings.”

Rivals

The RayZR 125 Fi Hybrid and the Street Rally 125 Fi Hybrid rivals the TVS Ntorq which starts at Rs 72,270 (ex-showroom) undercutting the RayZR here by Rs 4560, and the Aprilia SR 125 which is a little more expensive compared to the Yamaha RayZR 125.
