Yamaha Motor India has silently updated the prices of the FZ 25 and the FZS 25. And much to our surprise, where manufacturers have been increasing the prices of their machines, Yamaha has managed to reduce the price of both their quarter-litre offerings by quite a margin. Rs 19,000 to be exact. The FZ 25 that was priced at Rs 1.53 lakh now comes with a price tag of Rs 1.34 lakh while the FZS 25’s Rs 1.58 lakh ex-showroom price gives way to a more appealing Rs 1.39 lakh ex-showroom price.

Yamaha says that the reason for the slashing of prices of its quarter-litre machines is because they have managed to reduce the manufacturing costs that had increased significantly during the transition to BS6. And lower manufacturing costs have resulted in reduced ex-showroom prices which will benefit the customer. And in doing so, Yamaha has managed to make the bike appeal to a wider audience considering the prices are closer to 200cc motorcycles now.

The Yamaha FZ 25 and FZS 25 are in essence the same bike barring cosmetic differences like the paint finish and the fact that the FZS 25 gets a small visor and knuckle guards as standard equipment. The bikes are powered by a 249cc air-cooled, SOHC, 2-valve single-cylinder engine that is good for 20.5bhp at 8000rpm and 20.1Nm at 6000rpm. The engine is mated to a five-speed gearbox. The bikes use a diamond frame that is suspended on telescopic forks at the front and a preload adjustable monoshock. In terms of tech, the bikes get a basic digital instrument cluster, LED illumination at both ends and dual-channel ABS. Seat height is a friendly 795mm and the FZS 25 tips the scales at 154kg which is a kilo more than the FZ 25 and both bikes can hold up to 14 litres of fuel.

Yamahas decision to reduce the price of the FZ 25 and the FZS 25 is a smart move that could definitely help tip the sales figures in their favor especially considering how well-balanced the bike is.
