Triumph India took to their social media handles to announce that the Trident 660 launch is just around the corner. We don’t have an exact date as of yet but we can expect the bike to land in dealerships within a month. Bookings for the bike have been open since November, 2020.

The Trident 660 is Triumph’s latest offering in the middleweight naked category. It will be the entry level offering from the folks at Hinckley. Once launched it will be rivalled by the likes of the Kawasaki Z650, Ducati Scrambler Icon, and Benelli’s TNT 600 which is also expected to be revealed soon as well.

The Trident 660 is powered by the 660cc triple-pot mill that is based loosely on the engine found on the Street Triple S but has as many as 67 new components including a new crankshaft, pistons, clutch and cam profiles and a bespoke intake/exhaust systems, making it a new engine. The bike outputs 80.4bhp at 10,250rpm and 64Nm of twist at 6250rpm. The engine is also mated a six-speed gearbox and gets a slipper clutch as standard.

In terms of its chassis, the Trident 660 uses a tubular steel perimeter frame which uses 41mm Showa no-adjustable Separate Function Forks in the front and a preload adjustable Showa monoshock at the rear. Braking components are borrowed from the Street Triple S, which is the two-pot Nissins mounted on twin 310mm discs at the front and a single-pot Nissin on a 245mm disc at the back. Seat height on the Trident 660 is an approachable 805mm which is great considering this is going to be a bike many beginners will consider. And the whole package, ready to ride, tips the scales at 189kg.

Despite the fact that it will be an entry-level bike, it doesn’t miss out on tech. It gets a colour TFT display with the option to fit the My Triumph connected features suite as an extra. The Trident 660 gets a ride-by-wire system which bestows it with two riding modes, road and rain. In terms of rider aids it gets non-switchable dual-channel ABS and a switchable traction control system. LED lighting is also standard kit. It being a Triumph, there is a host of accessories you can get for the Trident 660.

The Triumph Trident 660 will launch soon and can be had in four colour finishes. While bookings are already open, we expect it to be priced between Rs 6.5 to Rs 7 lakh ex-showroom. And if Triumph manages that, it should be great value for money.
