The Bonneville range dates back to the 50s. In 1954, Jack Dale stripped down to his swimming trunks astride the Triumph Thunderbird in a quest to make the bike more aerodynamic. The next year, Johnny Allen set a 344kmph land speed record on a modified Triumph Tiger 110 for the world’s fastest motorcycle, which was held by the company for 15 years. The Triumph Bonneville first hit the roads in 1959 and was named after this record. The name of the Bonneville as we know it today, comes from the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah where these records and attempts were made.

The original Bonneville was a T120, which now features a 1200cc parallel-twin liquid cooled engine which makes 79bhp @6550rpm and a whopping 104Nm of torque. The Modern Classic range also includes the Speedmaster, which has the same powerplant in a different state of tune and the 900cc Street Twin and T100.

While the Bonneville has been around for more than half a century, it has been brought up to speed for modern times, incorporating ride-by-wire technology and liquid cooling. These tweaks helped in creating the practical yet classic riding experience associated with Triumph today. The Bonneville also has a distinct soundtrack which helps it stand out from the sea of neo-retro motorcycles available in the market today.
