Targeting off-road enthusiasts in the country, Suzuki Motorcycle India has launched the RM-Z250 and RM-Z450 motorcycles at Rs 7.1 lakh and Rs 8.31 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
As the names imply, the RM-Z250 is powered by a 249cc 4-stroke, single cylinder, liquid cooled engine and the RM-Z450 is powered by a 449cc, 4-stroke, single cylinder, liquid cooled engine. Suzuki has not revealed the power figures of the motorcycles. The compression ratios of RM-Z250 and RM-Z450 are 13.75:1 (increased from 13.5:1, thanks to high compression intake valves) and 12.5:1. Both motocross bikes get fuel injection and a 5-speed constant mesh gearbox.
Suzuki says that the RM-Z250 is tuned for better mid-range grunt while the RM-Z450 is tuned for better low-end torque. The RM-Z250’s fuel injection system features two injectors. The primary injector delivers precise low-rpm fueling while a secondary injector at higher rpm provides the extra fuel needed, claims Suzuki. The RM-Z250 gets KYB suspension at both ends. The front forks and rear monoshock can be adjusted for both compression and rebound. The spring preload for the rear monoshock is also adjustable. The rims are made of anodised aluminium.
The RM-Z450 gets an all new frame and swingarm for better cornering performance. Swingarm upgrades include thinner materials for a 100g weight reduction and optimised rigidity, which translates to increased cornering and stability, says Suzuki. Suspension duties are managed by Showa at both ends. The rear monoshock features Balance Free Rear Cushion (BFRC) as standard, which provides better control and also helps iron out bumps under severe braking, by balancing the piston pressure above and below. The new shock shares technology with the all-new 2018 GSX-R1000R sportsbike, says Suzuki. The bike also gets lighter rims and new Bridgestone Battlecross X30 tyres suited for a wide range of track conditions.
In India, the RM-Z250 and RM-Z450 compete with the Kawasaki KX 250F and KX 450F, which retail at Rs 7.43 lakh and Rs 7.79 lakh (ex-showroom).
