Barely two weeks after the launch of BS6-compliant Classic 350, Royal Enfield has launched the BS6-compliant Himalayan today at Rs 1.86 lakh (ex-showroom). The bike now gets switchable ABS (finally) and the hazard lamp switch makes a comeback too. Interestingly, the kerb weight has gone up by 5kg and we suspect that’s down to BS6 trickery. The bookings will commence on January 2020.

All you need to know about Himalayan BS6

The Himalayan continues to use the long stroke, 411cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled SOHC engine but now produces 24.3bhp (lower by 0.2bhp) at 6500rpm and 32Nm at 4000-4500rpm. Braking and suspension equipment remains the same although Royal Enfield claims to have retuned the brakes for shorter stopping distance. The side-stand also has been replaced.

Royal Enfield has introduced three new shades for the Himalayan—Lake Blue, Gravel Grey and Rock Red, in addition to the existing colours. The dual tone colours are available Rs 1.91 lakh while the sleet is available at Rs 1.89 lakh (both ex-showroom). Like the Classic 350, Himalayan too gets the 3-year warranty.

Commenting on the launch, Vinod Dasari, CEO, Royal Enfield India, said “The Himalayan is a distinctive adventure tourer which has performed admirably well, both in India and international markets. Since 2016, the Himalayan has served as a versatile, accessible and un-intimidating ally to many adventures across the world. The launch of the new BS-VI Himalayan with its unique features and design functions gives us confidence that it will resonate with riders, setting new standards for adventure motorcycling in the country.”

The price has gone up by Rs 6,000 compared to the BS4 model. The twins too are expected to be available by next month and dealers have already started accepting bookings. Going by the spy shots, the Thunderbird series is expected to have a major overhaul.
