The FIM Moto-e Championship will commence in 2019 and start a new electric edition in the world racing championship. Dorna Sports, the company which owns the media rights to MotoGP and World Superbike Championship series has chosen Energica as the manufacturer for supplying the race spec bikes for the 2019 season. The Energica Ego will be the motorcycle that will be used for the championship.  The motorcycle will be revamped with more tuning and weight reduction to comply with the Moto-e series regulations.  Michelin will be the tyre supplier for the racing series.

The stock version of Ego is powered by an oil-cooled permanent magnet AC type motor that develops 143.48bhp and 200Nm of maximum torque. The bike is constructed around a steel tubular trellis frame with cast aluminium swing arm. It can accelerate from 0-100kmph in 3 seconds and can reach a top speed of 240kmph.  The DC fast charger provides the 11.7kWh lithium polymer batteries with 0-85 per cent charge in 30 minutes. The bike’s Vehicle control unit (VCU) monitors the battery, inverter and ABS. It does not have a gearbox or clutch and everything is regulated by a ride-by-wire system that controls acceleration and deceleration via engine braking.

On being chosen as the only manufacturer for the Moto-e Championship, Livia Cevolini, CEO Energica Motor Company said, “We are proud to have been chosen by Dorna and we are already committed to this project. The passion for engines is what brought us here, to build new dream vehicles right at the beating heart of speed, Modena, the Italian Motor Valley. We took the electric field to another level: each Energica undergoes quality control and performance tests, and our R&D department is always focused on new technologies and their concrete application.”
