BMW Motorrad has launched its HP4 RACE track monster at Rs 85 lakh (ex-showroom, India). It’s a purebred track machine that sports high-end racing specifications and equipment, which explains the eye-watering price tag.

BMW says that the HP4 RACE is powered by a race-spec engine that is similar to their bikes from the Superbike World Championship (SBK). It sports a 999cc four-cylinder mill that produces 212bhp at 13,900rpm and 120Nm of torque at 10,000rpm. Power is transmitted through a six-speed close-ratio racing gearbox with optimised transmission ratios and various secondary ratios (diverse pinions and chain sprockets included). It’s coupled to a mechanically operated anti-hopping multi-disk clutch. The company says that top speed will be over 300kmph.

With the HP4 RACE, BMW Motorrad is the first motorcycle manufacturer in the world to offer a main frame made entirely of carbon fibre and weighs just 7.8kg. The front and rear wheels too are made from carbon-fibre which has resulted into a weight reduction of 30 per cent as compared to the light alloy forged wheels. As a result, the bike weighs only 171kg. It’s even lighter than BMW’s bikes used in the Superbike World Championship and is only slightly heavier than the Moto GP factory racers.

The suspension too is race specced as the HP4 RACE is fitted with Ohlin’s FGR 300 upside-down fork in the front and the TTX 36 GP spring strut at the rear. Stopping power too is massive with Brembo GP4 PR monoblock brake calipers with 320mm twin discs (thickness: 6.75mm) in the front and, coated titanium pistons and single-piece aluminium calipers with 220mm brake disc (thickness: 4mm) at the rear.

The bike is fitted with 17inch Pirelli Diablo Superbike SC2 tyres and also comes with a host of electronic rider aids. Dynamic traction control that’s programmed for selected gears at 15 levels, wheelie control, launch control, pit lane limiter and 2D dashboard with 2D data recording including logger among others.

The production of the HP4 RACE is limited to only 750 units worldwide with paint schemes under the BMW HP motorsport colours. At Rs 85 lakh (ex-showroom, India) BMW Motorrad’s non-road legal track maniac is one of the most expensive superbikes sold in our country.
