BMW Motorrad has launched two new motorcycles, the R 1250 R and the R 1250 RT in India with prices starting at Rs 15.95 lakh and Rs 22.5 lakh respectively. Both motorcycles feature the new 1254cc boxer engine that we are already familiar with on the R1250 GS already on sale here. Big updates to these bikes include the bigger engine, variable valve timing and an updated electronics suite. The naked R 1250 R competes with the likes of the Ducati Monster 1200.
The main changes as opposed to the previous generation is to the power unit, both models now feature a 2-cylinder in-line Boxer engine with a higher displacement of 1254cc (previously at 1170cc), producing 134bhp at 7,750 rpm and 143 Nm of torque at 6,250 rpm. The new engine gets more power and BMW’s ‘ShiftCam’ technology that enables variation of the valve timing and valve stroke on the intake side. The updates also include an optimised oil supply, twin-jet injection valves and a new exhaust system.
The R 1250 R gets a 6.5-inch full-colour TFT screen as standard which enables a host of connected features like the ability to make telephone calls and enjoy listening to music via Bluetooth connection, phone and media functions can be used without having to install an app and it also gets an audio system with radio software.
The R 1250 RT comes with a 5.7-inch TFT colour screen along with an analogue speedometer and rev-counter. Feature-wise it gets seat heating, central locking system, tyre pressure control and anti-theft alarm along with cruise control, keyless ride, Riding modes Pro and Headlight Pro.
Both bikes get two riding modes (Road and Rain), hill-start assist and automatic stability control, anti-lock braking system as standard. The R 1250 RT gets BMW’s ‘Dynamic ESA’ which is a proactive suspension system that is constantly adapting to the road and providing optimum comfort while reading the riding situation and manoeuvres.
