BMW F 750 GS and F 850 GS launched in India

BMW Motorrad has launched the F 750 GS and F 850 GS adventure tourer bikes at Rs 11.95 lakh and Rs 12.95 lakh (ex-showroom, India). The bikes are available in three versions – Standard, Pro and Pro Low Suspension. Both the bikes get new styling and changes made to the chassis to improve the torsional rigidity, robustness and an improved centre of gravity.

Both the F 750 GS and F 850 GS are powered by an inline twin cylinder engine displacing 853cc. While the F 750 GS makes 76.4bhp at 7,500rpm and 83Nm at 6,000rpm, the F 850 GS is tuned to make 88.5bhp at 8,000rpm and 86Nm at 6,250rpm. The engine is paired to a newly developed 6-speed gearbox with anti hopping clutch for smooth downshifting and reduced engine drag torque. BMW says that the exhaust note gives more character to the bike thanks to the crankshaft journal offset by 90 degrees and a firing interval of 270/450 degrees. While the F 750 GS has a saddle height of 815mm, the F 850 GS has 860mm seat height. The bikes tip in the scales at 224kg and 229kg.

The F 750 GS and F 850 GS get a plethora of features ABS, stability control, on board computer pro, adjustable handbrake and clutch lever, anti-hopping clutch, LED lights, LED DRLs  and cruise control as standard. The Pro and Pro Low Suspension get more goodies like traction control, gearshift assist, riding modes pro, LED turn indicators and ABS Pro. The former misses the suspension lowering kit and seat adjustment to a lower setting, while the latter misses the Dynamic ESA. The instrument cluster is also redesigned. An optional 6.5-inch TFT screen is also available which comes with mobile connectivity options. You don’t need an app to run the multimedia functions on the bike.

Both these adventure tourer bikes will compete with the Triumph Tiger 800 range, Ducati Multistrada 950 and Honda Africa Twin. The Ducati Multistrada 950 retails at Rs 12.80 lakh and the Honda Africa Twin costs Rs 13.23 lakh. The Triumph Tiger 800 range starts at Rs 11.76 lakh.
