The Aprilia SXR 160 has been launched at an ex-showroom price of Rs 1.26 lakh and can be booked for a token amount of Rs 5,000 across Aprilia dealerships or on the Aprilia India website. The maxi-scooter will be available in four colour choices, namely: glossy red, matte blue, glossy white and matt black.

The SXR 160 is powered by the same BS6-compliant 160cc mill as found on the SR 160. Power and torque figures remain identical at 10.86bhp at 7600rpm and 11.6Nm at 6000rpm although the weight is up by 10kg. Braking duties are handled by a 220mm disc two-piston caliper with single-channel ABS upfront and a 140mm drum at the rear. In terms of suspension, the SXR 160 gets telescopic forks upfront and a 5-step adjustable rear monoshock.

The maxi-scooter has been designed and developed by Aprilia specifically keeping India in mind. In terms of design the SXR 160 resembles the bigger capacity maxi-scooters that Aprilia sells in international markets. The LED headlamps and the sharp DRLs resemble the new design language Aprilia is following that can also be seen on the RS 660. The SXR 160 gets 12-inch wheels instead of the 14-inch ones found on the SR 160. Fuel capacity, however has gone up by a litre, giving the SXR a total capacity of 7 litres. The digital information cluster is all new and houses information like mileage indicator, average speed, top speed display, ABS indicator, engine malfunction indicator apart from the standard speed, fuel gauge and odometer details. The maxi-scooter also gets Bluetooth as an optional extra.

Here’s what Diego Graffi, chairman and managing director, Piaggio India, said about the launch of the Aprilia SXR 160 - “We are delighted to launch the much-anticipated premium scooter, Aprilia SXR 160 for all our distinguished customers in India. Designed in Italy, for India, the Aprilia SXR 160 is an epitome of great style, high performance and great comfort. Available at all dealerships across India, we believe that this scooter will set high standards in the Indian premium two-wheeler market and will be a testament of Piaggio’s upcoming plans for India.”

The SXR 160 is rivaled as a maxi-scooter only by the Suzuki Burgman Street, the top-end variant of which costs Rs 84,600 ex-showroom.
