Royal Enfield has refreshed the Interceptor 650 and the Continental GT 650 with a bunch of new colour schemes. Five each, to be specific. Customers can also make use of the MiY platform to spec their bikes with seats, touring mirrors, flyscreen, sump guards and other accessories to personalize their ride. The bikes remain mechanically identical to the outgoing models and haven’t received any other updates including RE’s Tripper display that was rumored to be fit on the bikes. In terms of pricing each model is now roughly Rs 6000 dearer than earlier.

Starting with the Interceptor 650, it gets two new Standard or as RE Calls are single-tone colour options, Canyon Red and Ventura Blue. The two new dual-tone colours are called Downtown Drag and Sunset Strip while the chrome variant has been replaced with something called the Mark 2 a chrome finish that pays ode to the original Interceptor 750. Two colours that have been carried over are the single-tone Orange Crush finish and the dual-tone Baker Express finish. Apart from the colours, Royal Enfield has also painted the rims and the mudguard black on the single-tone color variants due to customer demand. Pricing for the 2021 Interceptor 650 is Rs 2.75 lakh (single-tone), Rs 2.83 lakh (dual-tone) and Rs 2.91 lakh for the chrome variant. Prices are ex-showroom all India.

The Continental GT 650 now gets the iconic Rocker Red colour scheme along with a striking British Racing Green colour finish for the single-tone variants. The dual-tone variants get two new options, namely, the Dux Deluxe and Ventura Storm. The chrome variant on the GT 650 despite still being called Mister Clean has been updated slightly. Ex-showroom prices for the Continental GT 650 start at Rs 2.91 lakh for the single-tone, Rs 2.99 lakh for the dual-tone and Rs 3.13 lakh for the chrome finish.

Commenting on the launch of the new colour schemes, Vinod K. Dasari, CEO, Royal Enfield, said, “The launch of the 650 Twins marked a new chapter for Royal Enfield and for the mid-sized motorcycle segment. The global success of these motorcycles over the last couple of years has been phenomenal with the Interceptor growing the 500cc+ category by more than 4-times in India, and also becoming the best-selling naked motorcycle in the mid-sized category in the UK in 2020. The introduction of Make-It-Yours on the 650 Twin motorcycles in October last year further enhanced the personalization possibilities and overall appeal of these motorcycles. MiY unlocks thousands of personalization options and is becoming a game changer for Royal Enfield. We believe that the newly introduced colourways on the Interceptor 650 and the Continental GT 650, along with unique personalisation options via MiY will go a long way in bringing more enthusiasts into the brand fold.”

Considering the changes are just cosmetic, the 650 twins continue to be powered by the same BS6 compliant 648cc parallel twin that makes 47bhp at 7150rpm and 52Nm of torque at 5250rpm. The 650 Twins use a tubular steel frame with a 41mm telescopic fork setup at the front and twin coil shocks at the back. Braking comes courtesy of a 320mm disc at the front and a 240mm disc at the rear both of which use Bybre calipers and get dual-channel ABS as standard. Seat height is 804mm and both bikes get a dry weight of 202kg.
