TVS Racing Clinches National Championship

TVS Racing Clinches National Championship

It’s the experience of more than 30 years that counts and TVS Racing are proving it by notching up yet another national championship. This time, in the Super Sport (Group B) 165cc class. With three pilots, Jagan Kumar, Kannan Subramanium and Harry Sylvester still battling for top honours in the rider’s championship, the trio have helped TVS Racing amass 304 points in the team championship as well as in the manufacturer’s championship.
Defending champion Jagan Kumar (pic above) still remains the man to beat in the championship as he leads the title chase with a tally of 141 points after four rounds, with three wins and four podiums to his name. He leads teammate Kannan, who won both the races in round four, by 31 points. Harry is a further eight points behind Kannan but crucially leads RACR’s Deepak Ravi Kumar who sits fourth with 95 points. The injured Sarath Kumar will remain a doubt for the rest of the season and therefore his fifth position in the standings is now up for grabs.
In the newly formed class, Super Sport 300-400cc, all of the riders in the class opted to use the KTM RC390; the manufacturer’s championship thus being a pointless affair. It has been Ami van Poederooijen all the way, as he has won all but one race held in the season so far. The wins have helped him score 135 points, thereby building a 20-point lead on Rock Star Racing teammate Abhishek V. The two of them have been far superior to their other teammates Pukhraj Singh, Siddhanth K and Amarnath Menon, who are far off in the rider’s championship.
Japanese rivalry descends on the Indian racetracks as well, as Honda goes head to head with Yamaha in the Pro Stock (Group C) 165cc as well as the Stock (Group D) 165cc classes.
Hari Krishnan and Rajiv Sethu have won four and three races respectively to help Honda retain the manufacturer’s crown in the Pro-Stock class with two races to spare. They have also been successful in defending Honda Ten10 Racing’s team championship in the process. Hari leads Rajiv in the points table by nine points with the title most likely going home with one of them. Vivek Pillai of Team Rockers and RACR’s Dinesh Kumar and Prabhu A are mere spectators of the championship battle for now.
The roles have been reversed in the Stock class, as Yamaha has earned 344 points to Honda’s 112. Spark Racing too has retained its crown but its United Tech Torque Racing’s Anish Shetty who sits atop the rider’s championship with 122 points. Performance Racing’s Anthony Peter is just two points off Anish with the man-in-form Joseph Matthew 11 points off the lead. Team Speed Up’s Soorya does have a mathematical chance of winning the crown too as he sits fourth with 100 points.
