TVS and BMW Motorrad announce expansion plans for future mobility
Having been in a partnership since 2013, TVS and BMW Motorrad have now announced their latest plans to extend their partnership with a renewed focus on joint platforms and new technologies
These platforms will spawn a wide range of new products, and will include electric vehicles. Additionally, TVS Motor Company will also continue to design and develop future BMW Motorrad offerings.
TVS and BMW have been in partnership since 2013 and over that time, they have developed a shared platform that spawned the RR310 (for TVS) and the G310R and G310GS (for BMW). Going forward, we will see a similar strategy where the TVS will develop products off the same platform, though they don’t compete directly with each other. “Exclusive products” for both companies will be created, states the press release, and both companies will retail these products globally. What are these products? Well, details haven’t been revealed yet but TVS has confirmed that they will be tapping in to “future technologies”, and will be “keeping in mind the global requirement of customer segments”.
Sudarshan Venu, Joint Managing Director, TVS Motor Company, said, "In the nine years of our long-term strategic partnership, we have always cherished the common core values we share with BMW Motorrad: focus on quality, engineering prowess, innovation and customer satisfaction. These factors and our commitment to deliver superior quality products with a strong value proposition has been key to the success of all three products launched from the platform. The new world of future mobility encompasses a strong play through alternate solutions, including electric mobility. Expanding this successful partnership to EVs and other newer platforms will create opportunities to deliver advanced technology and aspirational products to global markets and bring valuable synergies to both companies.”
The BMW G310 twins have been immensely successful for BMW Motorrad globally and have sold over 100,000 units globally since they were first launched in Europe in 2018. Fuelled by the success of this partnership, both parties saw it fit to expand the partnership. Meanwhile, the RR310 has been rather successful as well, and has been a brand shaper for TVS. Over the years, TVS has brought in updates and the latest one – the RR310 BTO – offers premium components like adjustable suspension.
Products from the renewed partnership will now be under development and we can expect to see the first of them being showcased in the next two years.
