Yamaha has just launched its 3rd generation FZ-FI and FZS-FI motorcycles in India. The new FZ-FI and FZS-FI models resemble their elder sibling, the FZ25, and along with the introduction of single-channel ABS, they now get a larger 13-litre tank with aggressive looking tank shrouds and air-vents to the side finished in chrome, re-designed LCD instrument cluster, new LED headlight and a newly re-designed, two-level single piece seat. It also has a new belly-pan and a new muffler.

Additionally, the handlebar has been raised for better ergonomics. The new model continues with Yamaha’s tried and tested 149cc single-cylinder engine that makes 13.2bhp and 12.8Nm. However, as per Motofumi Shitara, chairman, Yamaha Motor India, the fuel injection system has been tweaked to offer more power lower down in the rev-range.

Ravinder Singh, senior VP, strategy and planning, added that the new Yamaha has almost 90 per cent localised parts. Yamaha, however, was not content with just a single launch at the event, as they also showcased the new FZ25 and Fazer-25, now with dual channel ABS. Mechanically, the new 249cc bikes are identical to their existing brethren.

Speaking of ABS, Yamaha also showcased the R15 V3 with dual channel ABS. Again, there have been no mechanical changes, and the only new visual change is the new all-black colour scheme called ‘Darknight’.

The new FZ-FI V3.0 will be available in three colours for the FZS-FI variant and two colours for the base FZ-FI. The FZ-FI is priced at Rs 95,000 and the FZS-FI is priced at Rs 97,000. The new FZ25 and Fazer-25 will be priced at Rs 1.33 lakh and Rs 1.43 lakh. The YZF-R15 version 3.0 ABS will be priced at Rs 1.39 lakh for all versions with the ‘Darknight’ colour scheme at Rs 1.41 lakh
