The Piaggio group has launched the Vespa RED as part of its partnership with RED. Piaggio has committed to contributing 50 USD for every Vespa RED sold. It features a new dazzlingly bright shade of red, new red alloy wheels and a leather seat in a shade of red; even the shocks are colour coordinated. The Vespa RED is however mechanically similar to the LX 125 and uses the same 125cc engine.

For the launch event, Piaggio roped in Bollywood actor Farhan Akhtar, and Farhan, the UN Women Goodwill Ambassador, restated the brand’s commitment to fighting AIDS in India. The actor was presented with the first Vespa RED bike in India and was also asked to subsequently present the keys to the first owners of the bike. The Vespa RED has been priced at Rs. 87,009 (ex-showroom Mumbai) and will be available at all Vespa dealerships across the country. The regular LX 125 is priced at Rs. 81,517.

Speaking about the initiative, Farhan Akhtar said,” I am privileged to present this initiative to the country and proud to own the first Vespa RED bike. I am honoured to be a part of this endeavour for the fight to end AIDS here in India.”

Mr. Diego Graffi, Managing Director and CEO of Piaggio Vehicles Private Limited, said at the event, “It is a matter of great pride for us to introduce the Vespa RED in the country. The iconic Vespa has always given back to society in supporting similar causes in other geographies. Through this association in India, we aim to provide an environment where people are better equipped to fight preventable and treatable diseases.”
