Harley-Davidson files patents for two new bikes

Harley-Davidson will expand its product lineup under the ‘More Roads to Harley-Davidson’ with a cafe racer and a flat-tracker motorcycle. The images of the two new bikes emerged following an investors meet held a few months back, however, there was no word on the launch timeline then. Now, with Harley-Davidson patenting the designs, these bikes are likely to be unveiled as early as next year.

Both the bikes appear to have the same liquid-cooled 1250cc V-Twin seen on Pan America and are likely to use the same steel trellis frame, following the brand’s new modular design principle.

In terms of design, the flat-tracker takes its inspiration from the track-bred XG 750 R, that Harley-Davidson has been racing with. The bike gets a tall handlebar, a flat seat, side-mounted twin exhaust and a floating number-plate holder. The cafe racer concept on the other hand, appears to be an amalgamation of the modern-day LiveWire and the XLCR that existed in the seventies.

After announcing its product expansion last year, the American cruiser giant has already launched its first electric motorcycle, the LiveWire in select markets and a streetfighter christened Bronx along with the brand’s adventure tourer, Pan America, will soon follow. When launched, the cafe racer concept goes up against the likes of Triumph’s Thruxton R while the flat-tracker will take the battle to the Indian FTR 1200. Interesting times ahead, eh?
