BMW R 1250 GS and R 1250 GS Adventure launched
BMW Motorrad India launched the new BMW R 1250 GS at Rs 20.45 lakh and the flagship BMW R 1250 GS Adventure at Rs 22.4 lakh. The new R 1250 GS' price remains the same but the R 1250 GS Adventure is more expensive by Rs 5,000. Both motorcycles will be brought in as CBUs and customers can make bookings from today onwards. The new GS’ will have a BS6-compliant two-cylinder engine, new paint schemes, plenty of kit — adaptive LED headlight, new riding modes, and BMW Integral ABS Pro to name a few. New BMW R 1250 GS, R 1250 GS Adventure design
Both motorcycles carry the same iconic design as the rest of the GS family, barring the colours. The latest R 1250 GS get new colours — light white and ice grey. And there will be two new optional colour schemes, the ‘Style Triple Black’ and ‘Style Rallye.’ The Style Triple Black option will have a colour combination of Blackstorm metallic, black, and agate grey. Everything else is blacked-out including the handlebars, rear frame, and brake calipers. And the Style Rallye option gets solid white paint, racing blue metallic, and racing red paint colour combination.
BMW Motorrad is also celebrating 40 years of its GS family so it will roll out a limited ‘40 Years GS’ edition R 1250 GS Adventure to pay homage to the GS’ history. The limited-edition motorcycles will have colours resembling the BMW R 100 GS, the origin of the GS family. The limited-edition GS is painted in Blackstorm, complemented by yellow accents on the tank, the Rallye windscreen and even the Rallye seat is trimmed in a two-tone black and yellow colour.
New BMW R 1250 GS, R 1250 GS Adventure Powertrain
Both models get a BS6-compliant 1254cc two-cylinder in-line Boxer engine, producing 134bhp and 143Nm. While power is up by 2bhp over the outgoing models, the torque figure remains the same. You also get Shiftcam as an option as we’ve seen with previous models of the R 1250 GS, which essentially increase or decrease the valve lift under various loads (throttle input) on engine. The engine is mated to a six-speed gearbox with a shaft drive.
Upgraded Features
In terms of electronics, the 2021 GS models get three new riding modes — Rain, Road and Eco mode. The new GS models also come equipped with BMW Integral ABS which BMW’s version of combi-brake system, and there are also updates to the hill start control system.
The highlight in the features list in the R 1250 GS is the new adaptive headlight with a ‘welcome, goodbye and follow me home’ function. Comfort features now include heated grips and two power sockets as standard. A 12-volt socket is installed under the rider’s seat.
In India, the new BMW R 1250 GS series will compete with the Honda Africa Twin which comes at Rs 17.5 lakh and also the Ducati Multistrada V4 which is set to arrive later this month.
