Round 3 of INMRC 2018 is set to begin on Friday

Action packed weekend at the MMRT

The round three of MRF MMSC fmsci Indian National Motorcycle Racing Championship will begin at the MMRT on Friday. The MRF INMRC competition will run concurrently with the FIA Formula 4 South-East Asia Championship.

In the Super Sport Indian (165cc) class the primary focus will be on the battle between Idemitsu Honda Ten10 Racing and TVS Racing riders. Honda’s young talent Rajiv Sethu tops the leaderboard with 70 points ahead of TVS Racing’s Jagan Kumar and KY Ahamed, who are not far behind with 62 and 58 points.

In the Pro-Stock 301-400cc class, Gusto Racing riders, Amarnath Menon and Satyanarayana Raju are leading with 72 and 61 points and have won three of four races between them. On the other hand, Idemitsu Honda Ten10 Racing’s Anish D Shetty heads the Pro-Stock (165cc) category with 93 points, ahead of second-placed Kevin Kannan of Rockers Racing, who has so far earned 60 points.

It is going to be a fully action-packed weekend as MMSC has organised races for Novice riders as well. They will be riding the CBR 150 motorcycles in the Idemitsu Honda India Talent Cup 2018 and Apache RTR 200 bikes in the TVS One-Make Championship.

This time there’s great news for the Pro Stock (165cc) category as title sponsors MRF will issue slick tyres to them. Riders from the Super Sport Indian (165cc) and Pro-Stock 301-400cc categories have also raced on the slicks in the last round and will continue using them this weekend as well. The MRF slicks have been well received by the competitors as it resulted in better lap times and far better grip on high-speed corners over the normal tyres.

Formula 4 South-East Asia Championship to have its MMRT debut

MMRT will witness more world-class racing action as FIA brings the Formula 4 South-East Asia Championship for the first time to Chennai. There will also be the Caterham Championship, where anyone with a National C or higher licence can be offered an arrive-and-drive package for those looking for their first motorsport experience.

Former fmsci head and current FIA APRC president, Vicky Chandhok, said: “Meritus, the promoter of the F4 SEA Championship, and MMSC go back a long way, and we have been in talks over the past few months about bringing the championship to India. The event is also in sync with our efforts to widen our racing horizons by presenting different international racing events in our country without compromising on our primary objective of promoting the sport at all levels”.

The Formula 4 SEA is held across Malaysia, Thailand and Asia and is spread across eight rounds consisting of 24 races. The six races that will take place at the MMRT will have drivers from Asia, Europe and Canada with a grid of 12 to 14 cars while the Caterham event will include four races with nine drivers competing in two classes- 420R and Supersport.
