Kawasaki India teases Vulcan 650 S cruiser on it’s India website

Words: Ganesh Murthy

Kawasaki is readying its middle weight cruiser motorcycle for the Indian market. The manufacturer has displayed a partial view of the 2018 Vulcan 650 S on its India website with a coming soon banner. The fact clearly states that the Vulcan 650 S is just around the corner. The bike shares the same Kawasaki 650cc engine and powertrain albeit in a different state of tune to suit a cruiser’s character. The pear shaped headlamp is housed inside a blacked headlamp cowl. Kawasaki has given black treatment for parts like the speedo, exhaust, suspensions, chassis, swing arm and the transmission box to give it a contemporary look. The blacked out double bar alloys joined at the base add to the bold aesthetic appeal. The twin silencers are integrated as one unit and the short exhaust looks snug fit.

The Vulcan 650 S is built around a steel diamond frame chassis with a low saddle height of 706mm and 129.5mm of ground clearance. The engine produces a maximum torque of 62.7Nm from its liquid cooled 649cc parallel twin engine mated to a 6-speed transmission. Suspension duties are handled by 7- way adjustable 41mm conventional telescopic fork setup and preload adjustable mono shock unit. The rear suspension is horizontally placed just below the rider’s seat and is surely a state of the art masterpiece to look at. In international markets, the Vulcan 650 S has customisation options like 3- way adjustable foot pegs, different seat configurations and adjustable handle bars to suit the riders’ build.

Braking duties are taken care by a single 300mm disc with twin calliper set up at the front and a 250mm disc with single piston calliper with dual channel ABS as standard fitment. The Vulcan 650 S is expected to be launched sometime in 2018 and will compete with the Harley Davidson Street 750 and the recently unveiled Royal Enfield 650cc twins. Stay tuned for more info on launch dates and bike details.
