Hero Xtreme 200R unveiled

Words by Afzal Rawuther

Hero Motocorp has unveiled the much anticipated Xtreme 200R. First displayed as a concept car at the Delhi Auto Expo 2016, the motorcycle has finally been unveiled ahead of the Auto Expo 2018. The design of the bike follows heavily from the concept and elements like the dual-tone graphics, the sculpted fuel-tank and body,  LED pilot lamps and LED tail lamps make the Xtreme 200R look rather sporty. The motorcycle is powered by an all-new 200cc, BS-IV compliant, air-cooled engine with a max output of 18.1bhp at 8000rpm and a peak torque of 17.1Nm at 6500rpm. The motorcycle, Hero claims, will accelerate to 60kmph in 4.6 seconds before maxing out at 114kmph.

The bike comes equipped with 276mm front and 220mm rear disc brakes and can be optioned with a single-channel ABS. The front is sprung with a conventional telescopic suspension while the rear gets an adjustable monoshock. The tyres are 17inch ones; rear tyre is a 130 section unit while the front makes do with a 100mm one. The bike with a  kerb weight of 146kg is rather light and with  a saddle height of 790mm, should be comfortable for most riders. Armed with a fuel tank of 12.4 litre and Hero’s reputation for frugal engines, the Xtreme 200R should have decent range too. The Xtreme 200R comes with an analogue-digital instrument console.

At the launch, Markus Braunsperger, Chief Technology Officer, Hero MotoCorp, said, “ The all-new Xtreme 200R is reflective of our product development capabilities and also demonstrtates the strenuous R&D efforts that are underway at the Hero Centre of Innovation and Technology(CIT). The new Xtreme 200R is the perfect amalgamation of performance, advance technology and masculine attributes. We also have a strong pipeline of new products for the rest of the year.”

The pricing hasn’t been announced as of now.
