Aprilia SR GT scooter range showcased at EICMA 2021

The Aprilia SR GT scooters are more off-road biased with high ground clearance, knobby tyres and long-travel suspension

Aprilia has expanded its SR lineup with two new GT additions showcased at the EICMA 2021. The Aprilia SR GT gets its design suitable for taking on the beaten path while maintaining the practicality of an everyday scooter. Hence, the firm is calling it an ‘urban adventure’ scooter. It has two engine options — 125cc and 174cc and is suitably kitted with a wider handlebar, long-travel suspension, and block pattern tyres. Let’s discuss it in detail, shall we?

Aprilia SR GT design

It has 14-inch and 13-inch alloy wheels front and rear

The design of the SR GT is totally new and it looks burly, courtesy of the aggressive uses of cuts and creases on the body panels. These creases are more exaggerated on the front panel, which, thanks to the LED headlights and tall smoked windshield, give it an alien-like face. Take a look from the side and you’ll immediately notice the empty spaces above the wheels to accommodate longer suspension travel. With that suspension kit and off-road friendly knobby tyres, the GT has 175mm of ground clearance. The 9-litre fuel tank is housed inside the centre tunnel which separates the feet of the rider. The riding ergonomics are, as Aprilia calls it, “active”. With the lower and wider handlebar, the riding position is a little more forward than neutral.

It has a naked, lower and wider handlebar for slightly sportier ergonomics

The SR GT is available in three colours — Aprilia Black, Street Grey and Infinity Blue, with silver footpegs and grabrails and black wheels. The Sport trim, however, has a style scheme replicating Aprilia’s sports bikes offering Street Gold, Iridium Grey, Red Raceway. Furthermore, the Sport trim also has a carbon textured central tunnel cover, dual-tone seat and red-painted wheels.

Aprilia SR GT engine and chassis

The SR GT is available with two engine options. First is the 125cc that generates 14.758bhp at 8750rpm and 12Nm at 6500rpm. Which is more than the Aprilia SR 125s in India. Then there is a brand-new 174cc engine with motorcycle derived internals introduced with the SR GT. It puts out figures of 17.43bhp at 8500rpm and 16.5Nm at 7000rpm. Both power units come mated to a CVT for the final drive.

The Petal disc brakes are available exclusively with the Sport trim

Underneath that burly cladding, the SR GT uses a double-cradle frame. It is suspended on 33mm Showa forks with 122mm of travel upfront, and twin Showa shock absorbers at the back with 102mm travel. Braking duties are handled by 260mm and 220mm disc brakes front and back respectively. However, the Sport version gets petal-discs brakes

Aprilia SR GT equipment

It has a fully digital LCD display

In terms of features, the SR GT has a fully digital LCD display that provides information like speed, engine rpm, temperature, time, range and side stand indicator. Smartphone integration is optional via the Aprilia MIA connectivity system. When connected the instrument panel will also display phone notifications and furthermore enables more features like telephony, music and voice commands.

Aprilia SR GT Availability

It is not confirmed whether it will come to our shores or not. But it certainly does have a market here in India as we have seen an upsurge in the ADV market, which currently has a motorcycle of every size. An off-road scooter could go down very well! If launched in India, the SR GT 125 would rival the Yamaha RayZR Street Rally 125.
