Yamaha has taken away my long term FZ25 and I’ve been hunting for the keys to anything and everything on two-wheels. This month has been pretty good for me though. I sampled a lot of bikes, starting from the 125 Duke all the way to R 1200 GS. The feeling of going down the ladder after having spent a considerable amount of time with a big bike is comparable to that of a heartbreak. And most of my fellow scribes will agree to it. But fortunately, Royal Enfield handed the keys to the Interceptor 650 to us the same day the Multistrada 1260 S left the garage. And I have never been happier!
New found love- Royal Enfield Interceptor 650
On the first day, I rode the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 to Bajaj’s test track at Chakan, which is a good 40km away from where I live. Not even 10 minutes into the ride and I was blown away by the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650! It’s so nimble that you can actually go round traffic and then there’s the torque. The lack of gear indicator is a problem though. You’ll never know what gear you are in because the sheer amount of twist will never get you out of the range! And then I discovered the joys of Lavasa the very next day.
The Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 catches eyeballs everywhere it goes and enquiries will never stop coming for the next six months, I’m guessing. On a Sunday, a few weeks back, something unbelievable happened. KTM riders are all over Lavasa and every weekend is an Orange day. The Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 not only managed to pass a stranger’s RC 390 from the outside but also irked him so much that at the end of the ride both of us were grinning! He was obviously impressed by the Interceptor 650 and we even exchanged business cards for more rides in the future. And then the weekend after, the Interceptor 650 managed to not only keep up with the fast bikes, including Alameen’s Daytona but kept the ZX-14R and 390 Duke gasping for breath! It’s been such a rage in office that everybody is jumping over each other to get hold of the Interceptor.
Any problems on the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650?
Problems you ask? The battery light keeps popping up once in a while and the footpegs interfere a bit too much when you’re stopping. Rest everything seems good so far, which is very unlike RE! Watch this space for a lot more adventures on the RE that has turned our world USD!
