Kawasaki Vulcan S launched at Rs 5.44 lakh

Words: Ganesh Murthy

Kawasaki has launched its latest offering, the Vulcan S cruiser motorcycle for the Indian market priced at Rs 5.44 lakh (ex- showroom, pan India). Last week the manufacturer had teased this very cruiser on its Indian website and now it has surprised the eager riders by launching it at the very end of 2017. The motorcycle also happens to be the only cruiser in Kawasaki’s Indian portfolio.

The Vulcan S is powered by a liquid cooled 649cc parallel twin engine that pumps out 60.3bhp at 7500rpm and 63Nm at 6600rpm, mated to a 6-speed gearbox. The motorcycle is built around a perimeter frame. Saddle height of the Vulcan S is a low 705mm with 130mm ground clearance, compared to the Harley Davidson Street 750 which has 720mm seat height and a ground clearance of 145mm. The wheelbase of the Vulcan S is longer than the Street 750 by 55mm. Suspension duties of the cruiser are managed by 41mm diameter telescopic forks with 130mm travel and preload adjustable monoshock with 80mm travel. Braking duties are handled by a single 300mm disc in the front that is operated by twin calipers and a 250mm disc at the rear operated by a single piston caliper.

The motorcycle comes with adjustable foot pegs that can be positioned 25mm forward and 25mm backward along with the standard setup. But for the above mentioned adjustments, the shift linkage rods have to be purchased separately when changing from the standard position. There is no word about handlebar adjustments here but the motorcycles sold in international markets come with adjustable handlebars to suit the rider’s build.

Stay tuned to our website for a ride report on the Vulcan S.
